The French multinational retailer, Carrefour opened its doors to Kenyan consumers in October this year. This is Carrefour’s first venture into Sub Saharan Africa although it has a store in Egypt.
Massmart, another multinational retailer whose biggest shareholder is Walmart, opened in Nairobi through its Game subsidiary recently.
“There is a rise in high-end consumer demand in the country and this has encouraged us to open this first shop in the East African region,” said Carrefour Kenya’s Country Manager Franck Moreau. “We might expand into Mombasa from here in the future,” he added.
The carrefour store in Nairobi is situated in the Two Rivers Lifestyle Center. “The Two Rivers mall is a state of the art shopping frontier never seen before in this part of the world. With this kind of development in the region, we want the Kenyan consumer to have a French connection through quality services that Carrefour offers.”
