Mozambique is fast emerging as one of the most preferred investment destination in Southern Africa as more and more companies plan to set up assembly plants and establish distribution hubs in the country. Belarus plans to set up a partnership with Mozambican businesspeople to assemble agricultural tractors in the East African country using parts manufactured in Belarus.
The five units that had been sent for an experimental phase adapted well to conditions in Mozambique and were sold at competitive prices.
Investment in the partnership would come largely from the Belarus State and from Mozambican businesspeople interested in being involved in the business.
On the other hand, Chinese company China Tong Jian Investment is due to begin construction of a factory to assemble cars in Mozambique, with an initial investment of US$200 million.
The factory will be built initially in the Machava area of Matola district and two years later is expected to move to the Manhiça district of Maputo province.
The factory is expected to assemble 10,000 cars per year, and capacity will develop to 50,000 per year.
