Openshopen.ng has been named e-commerce platform of the year at a recent awards ceremony in Nigeria
The website, which acts as the e-commerce platform for Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) Plc, garnered the most votes in its category at the Beacon of Information and Communication Technology (BOICT) awards in the Nigerian capital, Lagos.
Former president of the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) Chris Uwaje, and previous Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) president Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem were among the industry players present at the awards, which are currently in their seventh year.
“Winning the award of the ecommerce platform of the year in just less than one year of introducing our solution to the Nigerian market speaks volumes about the unique value Openshopen offers to SMEs and how they have come to appreciate it,” said CWG founder and CEO Austin Okere.
Openshopen enables SMEs to sell their products online by opening an online store, allowing merchants to sell directly to buyers, rather than having to submit goods for sale.
“Our e-commerce platform has the capacity to support over 100mn stores,” Okere continued. “It offers businesses the advantage of building and promoting their own brands rather than just dumping their goods and their fates in the hands of third parties, whose brands they are invariably promoting.
“By displaying their goods online, entrepreneurs significantly increase their sales, thereby creating jobs and ensuring inclusive growth for the economy.”
